Hardware
To build the mod you will require the following hardware
- AR.Drone v1.0 or v2.0 from Parrot
- 5+ channel RC TX/RX, 4 channels for sticks, 1+ switch(es) for land/flightmode
- MiruPCB board
Instead of buying the MiruPCB board you may also decide to build its DIY alternative, for which you will need:
- One of the following Arduino boards:
- Arduino Pro Mini 16Mhz/5V + FTDI USB Basic Breakout 5v board - refer to Arduino Pro Mini section for details
- Arduino Nano v3.0 16Mhz/5V - refer to Arduino Nano section for details
- Headers and cables for Arduino board
- MiruLLC (serial port connector and logic level converter)
If for some reason you don't like the MiruLLC, can't wait for it to be shipped from US or simply prefer to build you own you'll need the components below instead of MiruLLC
- Serial port connector
- for AR.Drone v1.0 one of the following connectors (female, 2 x 4, 2mm grid):
- Harwin 855-M22-7140442 at Mouser
- Molex 538-511100850 at Mouser + 7 x 538-50394 at Mouser
- for AR.Drone v2.0 (male, 2 x 5, 2mm grid):
- Hirose 798-A3C-10P-2DSA at Mouser
- for AR.Drone v1.0 one of the following connectors (female, 2 x 4, 2mm grid):
- Logic level converter BOB-08745 at sparkfun - MUST HAVE FOR AR.DRONE 2.0!!! May also be used for AR.DRONE 1.0.
- Resistor 4K7 - ONLY FOR AR.DRONE 1.0 (instead of logic level converter)
Optional components (if you are not using MiruLLC and want to be able to program your Arduino board while still connected to the drone)
- Another resistor 4K7 - ONLY FOR AR.DRONE 1.0 (instead of logic level converter)
- Diode 1N4001 or any other that can handle at least 0.5A and survive 20V in reverse
Once you have all the necessary hardware refer to Documentation section for assembly and setup instructions (especially Tutorial Miru Part 1 and 2)
If you want to equip your Drone with the optional GPS module, refer to the GPS section.
Note that for 3.3V GPS modules you will need 4K7 resistor
